Some students have the hope to proceed to tertiary institutions after their secondary school education. But most times, the cost of getting into some higher institutions gets them running for the hills. If you’re one of those looking for something in between Federal universities and privately owned universities in terms of the tuition fees, then what you’re looking for is a state university that is quite affordable.
These schools have varying fees for their students based on different factors such as the faculty they have been admitted to or whether they are indigenes of the state where the state university is located or not. Whatever case it might be, we have put together the range of some of the cheapest state universities in Nigeria, in no particular order.

1. Gombe State University (GSU)
It is a state-owned university in Nigeria located in the northern part of the country, Gombe state. Established in the year 2004, they offer degrees in the field of arts, social sciences, science, medicine, etc. Their fees are affordable and they range between #30,500 and #81,500.
2. Nasarawa State University (NSUK)
This is another state-owned university in Nasarawa state, Nigeria. The fees are also quite affordable. For students coming in with UTME, the fees range between #65,000 and #103,000 depending on the faculty they belong to. But for those coming in as Direct entry students, the fees range between #67,000 and #105,000
3. Taraba State University (TASU)
Taraba State University is located in the Northeastern part of Nigeria. For their tuition fees, indigenes pay the sum of #25,000 while non-indigenes pay the sum of #35,000.
4. Benue State University (BSU)
Benue State University is an accredited university with eight faculties including law, education, management science, arts, etc. The tuition varies for indigenes and non-indigenes with the sum of #68,800 and #110,000 respectively for freshers.
5. Ekiti State University (EKSU)
Formerly known as Obafemi Awolowo University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State University is located in the Southwestern state, Ekiti. The tuition is fixed at over #100,000. It offers degrees in various faculties including arts, sciences, social sciences, etc.
6. Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU)
If you need another state university to consider for possible admission and whose tuition is quite affordable, the Akwa Ibom State University should be on your list. And that’s why we have it here. With just the payment of #53,000 for indigenes and #73,000 for non-indigenes as tuition, the state university is favoured by many.
7. Lagos State University (LASU)
The Lagos State University, also known as LASU, is ranked 29 in the country. The tuition here is quite affordable as well as they range between #113,250 and #115,750.
8. Kogi State University (KSU)
This is another state university whose tuition fee is quite affordable. The indigenes of the state are required to pay just a sum of #57,500 while the non-indigenes pay a sum of #100,000.
9. Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA)
Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) is another state university located in Ondo state, Nigeria. The tuition fees here are also affordable and they range between #100,000 and #150,000 depending on the course one is studying or chooses to study.
10. Kebbi State University of Science and Technology (KSUSTA)
This is another university owned and run by a state government in Nigeria, and in this case, the Kebbi state government. The tuition differs for students who wish to attend Kebbi State University.
Those who are indigenes of Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara state, merely pay a sum of #28,500 while those from other states pay #63,500.
