This period is boring, most expecially for university students influenced by the ASUU strike. So, as a fellow K-cultured person, I made a list of Kdramas you can watch to make you feel excited. Some of us must have come across them and ignored them but I can assure you that they are great dramas.
1. A BUSINESS PROPOSAL(Blind date disaster)
Starring: Ahn Hyo Seop(Kang Tae-mu), Kim Se-Jeong(Shin Ha-ri), Kim Min-kyu(Cha Sung-hoon), Seol In-ah(Jin Young-seo)
Number of episodes:12; with 4 episodes aired already.
Airs on Mondays and Tuesdays
I thought craziness award should only be given to actresses like “Jeon Yeo Bin(Vicenzo), Jun Ji-hyun(My Love From Another Star), Kim So-yeon(Penthouse), Shin Hye-sun(Mr. Queen)” and the likes. I never knew some crazy actresses are still out there. Kudos to Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-Jeong) on this one. Not only was she suffering from an unrequited love, she also takes the place of her friend in a blind date and ended up making her life more difficult.
I know there are a lot of contract-based relationships drama but this one is top notch. Unlike some other dramas where they keep hiding the fact that the female lead has dual identities for a lot of episodes which end up causing a lot of heartbreak in later scenes, it is not like that here. Shin Ha-ri was already caught red-handed in episode 4 which is going to be more interesting because subsequent episodes would be about revenge.
Also, the friendship between Ha-ri and Young-seo is another level of comedy.
It is a must watch! I’m also rooting for the second main leads. They like eachother but they keep misunderstanding themselves in hilarious ways.
2. CRAZY LOVE
Starring: Krystal Jung(Lee Shin-ah), Kim Jae-wook(Noh Go-Jin), Ha Jun(Oh Se-gi)
Number of episodes: 16; with 2 episodes already aired.
Airs on Mondays and Tuesdays.
From the title, I thought it would not be something different from all the romance dramas we have been seeing but honestly, this particular drama is really crazy after “A business proposal”. Oh no! I never expected the craziness from the female lead (Crystal Jung), it is still very shocking to me. She really killed the character. For an arrogant boss(Go-Jin), she was able to press his button in a revengeful yet hilarious manner.
Furthermore, this storyline is unique because while Go-Jin was pretending to have amnesia (after receiving death threats), he found a crazy lover(Lee Shin-ah).
3. TWENTY FIVE TWENTY ONE
Starring: Nam Joo-hyuk(Baek Yi-jin), Kim Tae-ri(Na Hee-do), Bona(Go Yoo-rim), Choi Hyun-wook(Moon Ji-woong), Lee Joo-myung(Ji Seung-wan)
Number of episodes: 16; with 8 episodes already aired
Airs on Saturdays and Sundays
There’s one character that always run after buses in k-dramas and Yes, he did the same in this drama-our Nam Joo-hyuk oppa.
The first time I saw the trailer of this movie on YouTube, I already concluded I wasn’t going to watch it because the visuals looked so poor and stale. Anyways, during a boring moment, I decided to see the first episode and boom, it was so exciting.
If you think you are stuck in one aspect of your life, trust me, this drama can be a push. Baek Yi-jin (Nam joo hyuk) and Na Hee-do (Kim Tae-ri) were so cute and innocent. Although, the drama is more like reciting a story through Hee-do’s diary but it emphasises on how the main casts were able to achieve both great future and love in their respective coming ages.
As the drama goes on, I really hope their love story wasn’t tragedy because in the present day, Hee-do already had a daughter who quit ballet and we don’t know her father yet.
4. FORECASTING LOVE AND WEATHER
Starring: Park Min Young(Jin Ha-kyung), Song Kang(Lee Shi-woo), Yoon Park(Han Ki-joon), Yura(Chae Yoo-jin)
If you are a fan of kdramas, you will know that most times serious intimacy begins in later episodes from like episode 9,10 upwards. However, it is not so for romance dramas where we have Song Kang our popular “One night stander”.
Well, this drama left me with a few questions like
For non-geographers like us, it might seem boring but I really love how they were able to relate weather and love. As difficult as it was to predict weather, so also was it to predict love. Although, some people were like, “the drama would have been trash without Ki-joon disgusting attitude” but i am confident that all casts portrayed their roles very well.
5. ROOKIE COPS
Starring: Chae Soo-Bin(Go Eun-kang), Kang Daniel(Wi Seung-hyeon), Lee Shin-young(Kim Tak), Park Yoo-na(Ki Han-na)
Number of episodes: 16; with 14 episodes already aired
Airs on Wednesdays.
Crime and investigation dramas can be tiring because most of them have similar storyline of psychopathic characters but this one is different because they didn’t just give us what we expected. They showed us that these rookie cops live a life that depicts friendship, love, loss, challenges and ambitions.
Well, who goes to police academy because of a crush? I bet you won’t do that here in Nigeria “if you no want see finish”. That’s how it was for Go Eun-kang but amazingly she later found another kind of true love (Wi Seung-hyeon).
I’m mostly rooting for Kim tak and Shin-Ari. Teakbak, their love discovery is hilarious and their chemistry is great.
The only sad thing about these dramas is that we have to wait weekly with so much eagerness for subsequent episodes.
These dramas can be downloaded from:
- Nkiri.com (video comes with subtitle but not-so- good quality)
- Netnaija.com (subtitles are downloaded separately but videos have very good quality).
- Some of them can also be streamed on Netflix.
