Almost all Nigerian students are aware that there are only two universities in the country; Unilag and others.The University of Lagos (a.k.a. Unilag), is very unique in different ramifications ranging from her system to her students.
There are special traits one must find in almost all students of the University of Lagos which would be further discussed.
1. THEY DON’T JOKE WITH FUN
It’s nearly impossible that most people don’t know that Unilag is also popularly known for their social life. And this was proven in the just concluded NUGA. There is no school that can beat The University of First Choice standard when it comes to having fun. Likewise, the students don’t dull themselves.
Although, a lot of people outside unilag system tend to address unilag students with ill stereotypes. Some believe the girls are just prostitutes and some believe the guys are just yahoo boys.
Oh yeah, there are definitely bad eggs but most of it all are false statements. They don’t joke with their social life and they are not boring.
Amazingly, the school organises fun events such as hall week, paegentry, and the likes. The students also organise their own shows and derive fun on and off campus.
They believe in balancing their academic life and their social life towards a better development.

2. THEIR AMAZING DRESS SENSE
There’s hardly any Nigerian student that doesn’t know that UNILAG students are the best dressers. They slay in swag, modesty and all styles. Their fashion sense is top notch.
When it comes to western dressing, there is no school that can beat the University of Lagos students. They dress as if they go for outings, events and important places even when they are just going to attend lectures.
What about when there’s an event or a show?
They slay without mercy!
3. THEY ARE SCHOLARS
Yes, they love fun, they love having the best social life, they like enjoying, but they are still the best in academics. They are scholars in everything they do. Akokites are not just theoretical, they are also practical. Unilag students are the best home and abroad.
Other schools tends to target hate at the school saying things like ‘they live on past glory’, but honestly, it’s not true. The students are really doing well in the aspect of academics and they have won several competitions interstate and at the national level.
4. THEY LIKE TEASING
Is there any Unilag student that can’t ‘whine'(tease) someone? No, there isn’t.
Only unilag students read secretly and deny it while teasing those that haven’t read with the popular word ‘scholar’. There is no student that doesn’t tease in the school.
5. THEY ARE VERY FINE (BEAUTIFUL & HANDSOME)
‘Unilag students are fine’, very very fine.
I have heard people say, ‘the girls are fine because they are mami water’ since the school is close to a lagoon. Sincerely, the girls are very beautiful and pretty.

6. THEY ARE ALL ENTREPRENEURS
This is not an exaggeration. Although, this might apply to other schools but for UNILAG specifically, almost every student is selling something. Unilag students are very lucrative and creative. The students have the talent of balancing both academic and entrepreneurial activities. They have unique skills as some sell art, words, material things and so on.
Someone once tweeted that, ‘UNILAG students don’t know more than selling spaghetti’. Well, that’s how much of an entrepreneur they are. They are ready to sell whatever they can to be financially independent.

Unilag students have a lot of unique traits. They are so good at so many things.Of course, the school admits only the best. We are proud because being an akokite is not easy.
