Owo Attack: Actions The Government And Politicians Have Taken After The Eerie Incident

The St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in Owo town, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State capital was attacked yesterday. 5th June, 2022 was tagged a black Sunday as Ondo state loses many people to this attack. An online video showed some worshippers being killed while blood littered the church premises. The church members both adults and children were seen lying in the pool of blood. It was a gruesome incident to behold as some of the affected individuals had some of the parts of their body even chopped off before they were killed.

A source said the attack led to chaos in the environment as people ran for safety before the worshippers were shot by the gunmen.

A health worker in the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where the casualties were taken to said over 50 people had been taken to the hospital. He said some were alive while some were dead. There was a request for people living in Owo to come donate blood for the affected victims who were still alive even after being shot.

Akeredolu returned to Ondo state

     Hours later after the grisly incident, the governor of the affected state, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu cut short his trip to Abuja for the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention and visited the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo as well as the survivors of the incident.

“The attack was the most dastardly act that could happen in any society. What happened today is tragic. No better way to qualify it. It is the most tragic event! Horrific!” he wrote on his Twitter handle as he shared photos of the visit. Akeredolu expressed his disappointment over this incident and assured that the perpetrators of this crime will be bought to book.

NMA called for blood donations

   The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has called on Nigerians, especially people of Ondo State, to help donate blood to save as many lives as possible. 

FG mourned with the bereaved families

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , Muhammad Buhari and his Vice,Yemi Osinbajo also mourned and consoled the families of the victims.

“No matter what, this country shall never give in to evil and wicked people, and darkness will never overcome light. Nigeria will eventually win.” – Buhari said.

Tinubu’s 75 million naira donation and others

   Today, one of APC’s presidential aspirants and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu also paid a condolence visit to the particular church where the incident had occurred. He donated 75 million; 50 million to facilitate the treatment of the victims and 25 million for the church.

    Governor Rotimi Akeredolu commended him for his efforts and kind gesture.

  He said “Kabieyesi and I will reach out to the victims of the attack. So our leader is donating the sum of 50 million to the victims and 25 million to the church.”

The APC Caucus hosted by President Buhari

    In spite of this incident at the St. Francis Catholic Church, President Muhammadu Buhari held a dinner party for members of the All Progressives Congress national caucus. The dinner was held at the State House Banquet Hall yesterday after the killing. 

   The APC chieftains at the dinner include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, former Chairman, Bisi Akande, John Oyegun, the party’s Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and some APC Governors. However, due to the killing, Governor Akeredolu could not attend as he had to go visit the survivors who were admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo. Pictures of the APC chieftains smiling as they faced the camera, has trend online with Nigerians being amazed that such dinner could hold despite the death score in Owo.

PVC as a key to having our voices heard

    The case of civil unrest and killings in the country is pathetic. Most Nigerians has lost hope that there will be a change that will put these unrest to halt. There is a clamoring that all Nigerians should get their PVC as this is the first step to having our voices heard and electing the right man as the president. 

June 12th Fast

     A particular program tagged as ‘June 12 fast’ has been announced. The June 12 fast has been said to be born out of a vision from the Lord to Prophet Isaiah Wealth, about the dawning of a new day for Nigeria, and the emergence of “a good leader” who would lead the country into this new dawn, which the Lord has purposed to begin after the 2023 elections.

    The prophet announced that it is necessary that a 7-day fast should be assembled before a new president is inaugurated. The June 12 Fast will be held from Monday 13th of June to Sunday 19th of June, 2022. The prophet and other ministers also emphasized on the importance of prayer in having Nigeria, reformed.
