It is no longer news that Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole emerged as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin out of the 13 professors shortlisted for the post. This was announced at a press briefing held by the University Governing Council on the 8th of September, 2022.

Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole becomes the next Vice-Chancellor to take over from Professor Sulyman Abdul Kareem at the end of his tenure on the 15th of October, 2022.

1. He Is An Indigene Of Osun State.

While it is well known that the position of the University of Ilorin’s Vice-Chancellor isn’t meant only for the indigene of Ilorin, Kwara State, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole is an indigene of Osun State. He is from Ife south local government, Ifeledo, in Osun state, Nigeria.

2. He Studied Law

In 1984, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole earned his first degree in law at the University of Ife; he attended Nigerian Law School in Lagos, where he studied BL (law) and was called to the bar in 1985.

In 1989, he obtained a master’s degree in Law (LLM) from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). He also earned a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Ilorin in 2009.

3. He Is A SAN

Prof. Wahab Olasupo is a Solicitor and Barrister at the Supreme Court of Nigeria; he is a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of Credit/ Risk Management of Microfinance bank Ltd.

In 1985, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole began his career in the Ministry of Justice in Ilorin as a legal practitioner, a place of his service as a corp member. In 1986, he became a member of Femi ibitoye & co in Ilorin and served as its Head of the Corporate Affairs Department before he left in 1995. He founded Wahab Egbewole & Co in 1995 after he left Femi Ibitoye & co. Ever since 1995, he became a well-recognized legal practitioner.

4• He Is A Member Of National and International Societies

He is an active member of many professional National and International societies like the Nigerian Bar Association, African Bar Association, Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Nigerian Society of International Law, International Bar Association, Nigerian Association of Law Teachers, and many more.

He was/ is also a prominent member of several law review committees in Osun, Oyo, and the Kwara States, some of which are; the Board of Studies Council of Legal Education ( 2007 to 2010), Council of Legal Education ( 2007 to 2012), Governing Council of Office of Public Defender of Kwara State ( 2010 to 2011), Governing Council University of Ilorin (2015 till date).

5. He Is An Author

Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole is a skillful and consistent researcher with many publications in respected local, national, and international journal outlets. Currently, he has more than forty (40) journal articles published to his name by reputable national and international publishers: more than 30 book chapters and over ten edited books.

6. He Is An Academic Staff At The University Of Ilorin

Important to note that Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole has a great urge to contribute to legal education, which led him to join the services of the University of Ilorin as a Lecturer II in 1997.

Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole has served in the school faculty of Law as a Lecturer, Sub-Deen, Acting Head of Department, Acting Dean of law, and many others. He also did the University in many roles, including general Studies Division, Director, and a member of the Senate and Governing Council.

In 2012, as a reward for his extraordinary contribution to the University administration and Research, he was assigned the Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law.

7.  He Is The University’s 12th Vice-Chancellor

In the history of the University of Ilorin, from its establishment in 1975, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole emerged as the 12th Vice-Chancellor, preceded by Prof. Sulyman Abdul Kareem Age.
