INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, where the journey of self-discovery and academic excellence begins. As a newbie, you will be entering a world of different personalities, attitudes, and quirks. In fact, you’ll find a unique mix of people you might not find anywhere else in the world. So, hold onto your hats and get ready for a wild ride!
1. THE ACADEMIC OVERACHIEVERS:
They are popularly called “Iwe Ogba”, “Shana”, etc. These are the students that are committed to their academic pursuits. They are the ones who always attend lectures, take copious notes, and spend most of their time in the library. They do night readings almost every day and can’t be seen with any other thing aside from Their books. They often top the class and are highly respected by their lecturers. They are the 5.0 Geng.
2. THE KEEN LEARNERS:
These are students who are always eager to learn and explore new things. They attend all lectures, actively participate in class discussions, and always read and study. They don’t overdo the reading and get themselves worn out all in the name of reading like the Academic Overachievers.
3.. THE SOCIAL BUTTERFLIES:
These are the students who are always at the centre of attention. They are the life of the party and they attend parties, no party can be done behind them. You will always see them at Clubs, social events, and the like. They can have exams and still go to parties. They are highly sociable. They are the ones who know everyone and everything happening in the school.
4. THE NONCHALANT STUDENTS:
We call them the “School 2 Geng” These are the students who are not interested in academics, socializing or any extracurricular activities. They skip classes, and assignments and are often caught up in sleeping, playing games or lazing around the hostel. They never cared about their CGPA or what will become of them after school.
5. THE ACTIVISTS:
These are the students who are highly politically and socially conscious. They are the ALUTAs. They are always at the forefront of social justice movements, protests, and advocacy. They are vocal and never shy away from expressing their opinions. They fight for their rights and are not scared of showing their countenance towards something. They often contest political posts in the school and are mostly known by the students.
6. THE ENTREPRENEURIAL STUDENTS:
These are the students who are highly business-minded. They always have a side hustle or business venture, and they are always looking for new opportunities to make money. Some of them handle two and above streams of income, and are not shy of advertising their products or services to students around them.
7. THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
These are the students who are not from Nigeria. They come from different countries, and they bring with them different cultures, traditions, and perspectives. They often find it challenging to adjust to a new environment, but they eventually find their footing. You might think you don’t have them, but trust me there are in FUOYE, but they hold a little percentage of students in the school.
8. THE SPORT ENTHUSIASTS:
These are the students who are passionate about sports. They are often members of different sports teams in the school, and they dedicate a lot of their time to training and practising.
9. The ARTISTS:
These are students who are talented and passionate about arts, such as music, drama, and visual arts. They perform at campus events, social gatherings, and parties and showcase their work in exhibitions. They are popular in the school.
10. THE INFLUENCERS:
There are also students who can be classified as influencers. They are students who have a large following on social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. They use their influence to promote products, brands, and events on campus and beyond. Furthermore, they are often invited to attend and cover events, and they collaborate with companies and brands to create sponsored content.
Not only that but they can be found taking pictures and creating content for their followers around the campus and the surrounding areas. These students often have a significant impact on the opinions and choices of their followers, and they are highly sought after by companies looking to target the student market.
In conclusion,
FUOYE is a hub for diverse people, and the experience is sure to be a memorable one. You will meet different personalities, cultures, and backgrounds, and it is essential to keep an open mind and be receptive to new ideas and perspectives.
