Eat Your Way To First Class

The brain is an essential part of the body that is responsible for our thoughts and feelings. An important part of the central nervous system, the brain requires certain nutrients to perform its functions adequately. Fortunately, these nutrients can be found in certain foods around us. Some of these foods are;

Fatty fish

If you’re a great fan of fatty fish like mackerel, then you’re in luck. These types of fish are rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids. In case you weren’t aware, the brain uses omega-3 fatty acids to build brain and nerve cells, which aid memory and learning.

In addition to this, they may slow age-related mental decline and help one get rid of Alzheimer’s disease. You don’t want to joke about not having enough omega-3 fatty acids because it’s been linked to learning impairments and depression.

Turmeric

It’s possible that you might not have come across turmeric before or swore never to consume it because of its taste and smell. The truth is this deep-yellow spice is a very important ingredient used in making curry powder so you likely would have consumed it if you ate chicken or fish boiled with it.

There’s no need to panic because it’s also very good for the brain. I’m guessing you were like, “Awwn..so turmeric is good for me!” Yes, it is! The active ingredient in this spice is called Curcumin which directly enters the brain and benefits the cells inside it. An effective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound, Curcumin could help improve memory in people suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Dark chocolate

Wow! I was just as surprised when I found out dark chocolate and cocoa powder contain brain-boosting compounds like flavonoids. Unlike regular milk chocolate, dark chocolate contains 70% of cocoa. In addition to what we’ve learned about flavonoids earlier, these compounds gather in the areas of the brain that deal with learning and they help protect the brain.

Curcumin also boosts serotonin and dopamine, both of which improve

mood. When used with standard treatments for people diagnosed with depression, it was discovered that it could improve symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Oranges

The great orange, one of the most common and most affordable fruits for students has been associated with improvements in tasks involving focus, memory, attention, and decision speed as well. With a powerful antioxidant called Vitamin C, it helps fight off free radicals, which are capable of damaging brain cells

Another interesting thing about it is that one can get almost all the vitamin C needed in a day by eating a medium-sized orange. Besides oranges, you can also get high amounts of vitamin C from other foods like guava, bell peppers, tomatoes, and strawberries.

Having read all these, you should consider adding some of these foods to your timetable or spice list.

Always remember studying is not the only thing that can help you attain academic success.
