Clash of the Spiritual and Terrestrial At OAU

Amidst all the rogbodiyan going on in Nigeria and the price of a bag of pure water that now equals a can of malt, the students of OAU are now getting their own portion of double wahala on a platter of gold. Other universities changed VC and we didn’t hear about it, but Ojubo University must just be extra, right?

But since when did being an indigene of the state where a Federal University is located become a prerequisite for being the Vice chancellor? Well, if it was a requirement, the majority of the population of OAU students didn’t know about it until the Osun worshippers decided to take to the gates of the campus to protest against the election of the new VC, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire.

Apparently, these people think the post of VC is a cheiftaincy something and must be held onto tightly, hence their adamance that the VC must be an indigene of Ife. And so they have begun an ongoing protest with incantations and diabolical practices since Thursday, 17th of March.

OAU is for learning and culture, yeah? This was proven yesterday when masquerades stormed into the OAU campus in style to join the protest. In simple words, the campus of OAU was turned into an Osun shrine.

The most appalling thing about the protest is that students and staffs are been beaten with canes. Ahnahn, we no dey masquerade display now. It’s so bad that some were sent to the University Health Centre because of the attack.
